NA believes God is all and all is God. 5. NA believes man and nature are on an equal level. Man is no more important than a bird; fish; animal. 6. Some NA’ers worship the earth. C. NA believes that God is impersonal. 1. B/l that man is not a sinner. 2. that punishment is not eternal. 3. that Jesus is not the only way to God. 4. Hell is only an experience on earth. 5. salvation involves no more than getting in tune with the divine consciousness. 6. No need for a redeemer like Jesus & need to be saved from ignorance & not sin. D. With these beliefs in place – it would seem almost impossible to ever convert someone from this religion. 1. But…w/God all things are possible. 2. If the gospel could penetrate the hearts of Gentiles who participated in sensuous idolatry – then the gospel can reach someone in the NA movement. E. What must we teach someone involved in this movement?
I. God is personal. A. If God were impersonal – How could He 1. be longsuffering? a) Psa. 86:15; 2 Pet. 3:9, 15 b) He comes about us! Individually! No one is unimportant to God! 2. Be forgiving? See Dan. 9:9; Eph. 1:7; Psa. 86:5 3. Hate sin? Psa. 5:5-6; Hab. 1:3
II. Man is a sinner. Rom. 3:23 A. Can be deceitful & desperately sick with sin. B. Can love darkness rather than light – Jhn. 3:16-21 C. Before coming to Christ – dead in trespasses and sins. Eph. 2:1
III. Salvation not through correct thought; but deliverance from the consequences of sin. A. Rom. 6:23; Eph. 2:8-9 B. It is deliverance from God’s eternal damnation. C. Acts 4:12 – found only in Jesus.
IV. Jesus is the Christ, the anointed one. A. Jesus is not a “consciousness.” He is not a “quality of people.” B. Jesus is the Christ: the Messiah! The Deliverer from sin. 1. Mt. 16:16, 20; Lk. 9:20 2. Lk. 24:26, 46; Jhn. 1:41 3. Acts 2:31, 36; Rom. 5:6; 6:4
V. Final points: A. Only the bible has the message of grace! 1. Unmerited favor of God. Undeserved kindness. Involves getting blessings we do not deserve! 2. Only Christianity has message of free forgiveness given. B. Humanity is not unlimited but just the opposite – it is under the bondage of sin. Rom. 5:12 1. Sin is a master – deadly and deceitful! C. True morality is revealed by God in the Bible! 1. Anything else is only an imitation, a set of ideas laid down by man that originate from the mind of sinful man. D. The Bible opposes almost all the tenets of the New Age Movement. As Christians, we should be watchful to recognize what is false and teach what is true. E. I N V I T A T I O N |
