Does Jesus Care?

Subject: Satan; problems; trust

Introduction:

A.     1 Peter 5:8.

1.        Satan wants your soul.  He’ll do anything to get it.  Trying desperately to conquer us.

2.        Effective tool:  get us to focus on our problems.  Do it enough…destroy our soul.

3.        how?  We can lose our perspective in this life God commands us to keep.

B.     Our strength to overcome is found through Jesus.

1.        We can find solutions through Him!  Jesus is the solid rock!  (See 1 COr. 10:4) 

2.        Paul knew this as well – 2 Cor. 12:9-10

3.        We must possess this kind of faith in Jesus.  Must never lose sight of Him!  Remain faithful through everything the devil throws out at us!

4.        Heb. 13:5-6

C.    Why should we keep eyes focused on Jesus – especially when trials of life are coming at every turn?

D.    We’ll talk about this in depth for a few moments today.

 

I.  Does Jesus Care?

A.  Jesus cares that man is burdened with sin.

1.       Rom. 3:23 – sin restricts fellowship with God.  See also 2 Cor. 6:14.  what partnership have righteousness/lawlessness?  What fellowship has light w/darkness?

2.       Sin ravages our lives.  We bear consequences of sinful behavior.  Can get lives tangled in a mess – sometimes damage is irreparable.

3.       Gal. 6:7-8

B.     Does Jesus care?  Most certainly!  He ALSO cares for us when we labor with our trials.

1.      These come in all forms.  From world; everywhere!

2.      He knows when our hearts our pained; that burden’s press & cares distress.

3.      Need to let Jesus in our life – let him help with answers to daily problems.  Mt. 11:28-30

C.     He cares that we NOT perish w/the world.

1.      2 Pet. 3:9.  But…there is a responsibility on our part!

D.     Do we care?  2 Peter 3:14.

1.      do we care enough to have sins cleansed by His blood?  To trust on Him w/our cares?

 

II.  We must walk with Jesus!

A.     How do we start to walk w/Him?  Through obedience to gospel!

1.       We must step out in faith.  Involves commitment on our part.  Faith involves more than an acknowledgment of the fact of Jesus’ resurrection!

2.       It involves repentance.  Change your ways for better!  Follow through!  Good intentions not enough!

3.       It involves a public promise of faithfulness – through confession.

4.       Baptism is required in order to start walking with Him!  Death to old life; resurrection to the new!

B.     After starting, we must walk in His truth!

1.       Focus on Him by looking to wd of God!  Look to the eternal truth found in His word!

2.       2 Tim. 2:15 – if we do this we’ll be walking in truth!

C.    We must walk in His love!

1.       Jesus = essence of love!  Rom. 5:8-9

a)       sacrifice for us even while we were still sinners.  What greater sacrifice?

b)       We too, must learn to sacrifice for others!  Put their interests ahead of ours!

2.       Might have to see to needs of those we don’t feel tender affection for.  Mt. 5:44-48.

D.    Deny self & follow Him!  Mt. 16:24-27

1.       self must be placed behind Jesus. 

2.       If this means putting sinful habits/bad habits/questionable things aside, I must do it! 

3.       Mt. 6:33 – Put Jesus FIRST!  I must transform self into the kind of person that wants to obey the Lord!

E.     Follow the example of Jesus.

1.       John 13:15 – Jesus expects us to follow His lead!

2.       How?  By possessing the spirit of Christ!  Is Jesus reflected in my:

a)       attitude?  Personality?

b)       Speech

c)        Actions

 

III.  Four Facts About Jesus.

A.     Jesus loves you!  Eph. 5:1-2

B.     Jesus died for you!  Gal. 2:20

C.    In Jesus, one is free from condemnation – Rom. 8:1

D.    IN Jesus, we are more than conquerors!  Rom. 8:31, 37; 1 Cor. 15:57

 

Conclusion:

A.     Before we can make it through the swift waters of life – we must focus on Jesus!

1.      Heb. 12:1-3

2.      Once you get focused – stay focused!

3.      If we don’t – Satan will do his best to infiltrate our life!

B.     Do you love Jesus w/all your heart?  Yes?

1.      John 15:12-15

2.      Follow through!
