The Christian & Alcohol (2)

Introduction:
Eph. 5:8, 10-11. Note the direct command by the apostle. The Ephesians were reminded to be aware of the sin that was around them. We must be concerned with that as well. We should be alarmed if we get to the point where we’re not so passionate about sin around us. Are we as individuals and as a congregation heeding the commands in Eph 5? Where does social drinking come into play here? Not only have we looked at moral arguments against it, today we’ll look at some actual passages that teach against the drinking of alcohol for recreational purposes.

I. 1 Cor. 14:33—is God a God of ____________________?

A. Does God contradict himself? Is God confused?
    B. This is what some try to do in order to justify social drinking.
    C. God never said use of alcohol for recreational use is scriptural.

        2. Those who seek to justify social drinking from this passage have some hard questions:
            a) would Jesus go against the word of the _____________? Pro. 23:31-33
            b) Did Jesus hand out 150 gal of booze to contribute to drunkenness?
