Instructions for Our Spiritual Journey

Introduction:
A recurring theme throughout the NT is how Christians are “strangers,” “aliens,” and “pilgrims,” in the world. (Heb. 11:9-13; 1 Pet. 1:1; 2:11) Christians are pictured as those who have left one land and are headed for another. There is something after this life, waiting for us—something never to be taken away! In 1 Peter 1:3-12 Peter speaks of the hope Christians have! This centers around the salvation of our souls. Since our hope motivates us on our journey to heaven—Peter lays out some specifics on HOW to travel. Note:

I. 1:13- prepare your ___________ to ______________.
    A. People in 1st century wore long robes & would have to pull them together when engaging in business.
    B. We must become mentally fit and __________ _______________ to our spiritual life!
        1. We should have our minds in constant preparation to discharge duties; endure trials, etc.
        2. Need to be prepared for spiritual labor...the spiritual race….conflict w/the devil.
    C. Prov. 4:23—watch over your _______________ with all _______________.
        1. Gather up ___________ _____________; ill feelings; forbidden activities
        2. Mt. 15:19—Jesus’ warning—it all starts in the heart!
