The Indignity of Sin
Introduction:
The Hebrews represented the affection of the mind by different body parts. The bowels; heart; an evil eye were all used to describe various conditions of the heart. This is especially interesting because of what Jesus taught in Matthew 5:29-30. What exactly is meant here? Jesus wants the Christian to understand that if these things (eye & hand) stand in our way and become an occasion of sin—sacrifice them! We must understand that sin is so serious that any sacrifice is justified in order to avoid the guilt of sin.
