For What Should We Pray (2)
Introduction:
I hope that we ill use prayer as a tool to grow closer together! We need to realize the spiritual responsibility we have in this area. What should we pray for when we pray for ourselves? Sometimes we neglect our own needs for the needs of others. This is an admirable trait, but we need to make sure that we pray for our own needs—and believe that God will look out for us! He will hear our prayers and answer accordingly.
I. We must pray for our _______________ needs. (Mt. 6:11)
A. Daily bread: pertains to simple necessities in life: _______, ___________, __________, ________.
B. Mt. 6:8, 31-32—must pray for these things—even if God knows we need them.
1. God expects us to _______ Him to meet our needs.
2. Dependence upon God is stressed—Mt. 6:25-32.
C. Bottom line: it is ____________ to pray for _____________ things.
1. Burton-Coffman: prayer not for cake, wine, or luxuries, but for bread & only 1 day at a time.
D. Prayer is also to be no substitute for work.
1. Eph. 4:28; 2 Thess. 3:10; 1 Tim. 5:8—must work and pray!
2. Js. 1:17—every good thing is from God.
II. We must pray for protection from ____________. (Mt. 24:20)
A. Note Jesus’ instructions as the destruction of Jerusalem approached.
B. Remember that God is involved in the affairs of this world. Must pray for protection from harm!
III. We must pray for deliverance from _______________. (Mt. 6:13)
A. We give into temptation when we give into our own _________. Js. 1:13-15.
1. Need to pray for strength to withstand. Pray for __________ that we steer clear of
tempting situations.
B. 1 Cor. 10:13—not tempted above that which we can ____________!
IV. We must pray for __________________. (Mt. 6:12)
A. God will forgive us of our own sins! BUT……

A. God has sent us out into His harvest! Applicable to all Christians—not just a select few!
B. Mt. 9:38—Each of us is to ___________ His harvest!
1. Everyone of can do this to a certain degree.
2. Personal invitations, working w/in congregation; seeing to needs of others.
C. If we aren’t gathering for His harvest, we might as well stop praying until we see the need to do so!
Conclusion:
A. These are but a few things we can pray for when we pray for ourselves.
B. Hope your prayer life is improving as we go through this series.
