Lord...Make Me a Servant
Introduction.
Some
religious people have things backwards in their thinking. Their actions are
marked by a desire to be served. This is evident as many "churches"
have become nothing more than social clubs devoted to serving the physical
needs of the masses. Our actions, however, must be marked by a desire to serve.
This is what the Bible calls for. How are you doing?
I. All Christians are called
on to be servants.
A.
Must empty ourselves to be a servant. Means humility a must!
1. Mt. 18:3-4 – have you
humbled yourself? Put away your pride?
2. Rom. 8:5-8 – pride part of
carnal mind….can’t please God this way!
B. What does it mean to be a servant?
1. Put others before self. Opposite
of wanting to elevate oneself.
2. John 13:3-17 – notice how
Jesus defines servant hood.
C. Note the attitude of a servant:
1. 1 Cor. 9:19 – learned
behavior.
2. Lk. 6:34-35 – done w/o
expectation of repayment.
3. Phil. 2:3-8; Rom. 12:10 –
is unselfish.
II. Our relationships w/one
another to be marked by servanthood.
A. Phil. 2:5
– we encouraged to follow in the steps of Christ.
B. Heb. 5:8-9 – obedience required in us...just as in
a slave….
C. Mt. 23:8-12 – observe the teachings of Jesus.
III. Applying this principle
to relationships in the church.
A. Rom.
12:10; Eph. 5:21 – submitting to one another in the fear of God.
B. To brethren in need – 1 Jhn. 3:17; Acts 9:36-39
C. To brethren who are physically sick – Gal. 6:1-2; Js.
5:19-20
IV. Applying this principle to
evangelism.
A. Jude
22-23 – need to have compassion on the lost!
1. Not concerned w/who gets credit
for teaching others….
2. Just do it!
B. Must seek to convert people "to Christ" and not
"our philosophy/church"
C. How much a priority is evangelism to you?
D. Many times our service is marked by multiplied
imperfections...but the Master looks at our motives and says It is good.
1. Are you striving to be a servant?
Those
who serve Christ will be saved! Are you serving Him?
