Have You Been Sanctified?
Introduction.
Text: 1 Cor. 1:1-3. What does it mean to be sanctified in Christ Jesus? The
Bible talks about sanctification in a variety of ways. See 1 Tim. 4:1-5; 2 Tim.
2:21; 1 Cor. 7:14; 1 Pet. 3:15. Important to understand that sanctification
means to be set apart. Sanctification implies an action done by God –
not man! Christians are set apart for holy purposes. We have been
separated from certain things & to certain things so that we may be
pleasing to God. Have you been sanctified?
I. How may
people be sanctified?
A. God is said to sanctify people – Jude 1-2
B. The Holy Spirit is said to sanctify people – 2
Thess. 2:13-14.
C. How do they do it? Remember it’s an action of God –
not man!
1. Not a direct operation of the
Holy Spirit.
2. God & HS sanctify a person through
the Word.
a. Jhn. 17:17; Heb. 10:8-10
D. One must make commitment to apply teachings found in the
Word.
1. Just calling oneself a Christian
does not mean one is a Christian.
2. 2 Tim. 2:15; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; Js.
1:22-25 – must apply perfect law of liberty
II. Who are
the sanctified?
A. Eph. 5:23-27 – those that are in the church.
1. Those in the church set aside by
God for a holy purpose.
2. Acts 2:47 – church composed
of those who are saved.
B. How does one b/c saved? What must one do in order to be
sanctified?
1. Obey the gospel! (H, B, R, C, B)
Rom. 10:17; Acts 22:16; 1 Cor. 6:11)
2. Weren’t sanctified until
baptized!
C. To remain sanctified (set apart) one must commit himself
to good conduct!
1. Rom. 12:1-2; Col. 3:1-2
2. That which is separated to God
MUST BE PURE! 2 Cor. 6:16-7:1
III. What are
sanctified people called?
A. Saints. Check the root of sanctify and saint.
B. Acts 26:10 – who Paul talking about here?
Obviously...Christians.
1. Acts 9:2 – persecuted
people of the way.
C. Those who have been sanctified then & now are
simply known as Christians!
1. Acts 2:47 – added to the church –
NOT join a denomination!
D. More scriptures on what sanctified people called in the
NT:
1. Acts 11:26
2. 1 Pet. 4:16
Conclusion
A. Have you been sanctified? If not,...obey the gospel today!
B. Brethren….have you sanctified God in your heart by
remaining faithful?
