Keeping Yourself Pure

Introduction
   Americans demand purity in many things. Restaurants….bottled water...etc. How many still demand purity in character? What a more honorable thing than to keep oneself unstained from the pollution of the world? Christians need to make this priority one in their life. Can’t be content w/being anything but the best person we can be! Observe 1 Tim. 5:22. In today’s lesson we will attempt to show how (in what way) one is to keep himself pure.

I. The Christian is to keep his heart pure.
   A. Mt. 5:8; Phil. 4:8-9
        1. How much of a priority is this in your life? Are you "pumping in" sin?
        2. Through TV, movies, music, books….
    B. 2 Tim. 2:20-22 – can YOU call on God w/a pure heart?

II. The Christian is to be pure in conduct.
   A. Phil. 2:12-15 – we to shine as lights in the world.
      1. Christians … a peculiar people! We must learn to change behavior for better
    B. Eph. 5:1-7 – be followers of God….do not be partakers w/them.
       1. Involves a COMPLETE separation from sin!
        2. See especially 5:3-5.
    C. Important...b/c others are watching. (1 Pet. 2:11-12)

III. The Christian must have pure speech.
   A. Phil. 1:27 – conduct here would include one’s speech.
        1. Includes coarse language; rude comments; euphemisms
        2. Have you done damage to Christ by what you say?
    B. Eph. 4:29; 2 Tim. 1:13 – our speech needs to be that which edifies others!

IV. The Christian is to be pure in dress.
   A. Fashion world cares nothing for modesty. More skin….more fashionable.
        1. Rom. 12:1-2 – what is the Christian’s priority?
        2. 1 Jhn. 2:15-17….not so much concerned w/world as w/pleasing God!
    B. How do you dress for services?

V. The Christian must remain pure in objectives.
   A. Objective behind everything must be to please God & go to heaven!
        1. 1 Jhn. 3:2-3. Some act w/insincere motives….
        2. What are your motives behind being a Christian?
    B. Phil. 3:13-14 – objective needs to be heaven – no matter what! See Titus 1:1-2.

Conclusion
    A. How pure is your life? Purity is a personal responsibility.
    B. Are you drinking in the sin & pollution of the world?
