The Parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard

Introduction.
    The meaning of this parable has challenged many. Explanations, as well as applications of this parable are varied and many. We will seek to find the meaning and the application of this parable for Christians today. It is important to understand the setting around this parable. Basically, the apostles want to know "what personal profit is there for me in becoming a Christian and following the Lord?" Jesus attempts to answer this question in our parable.

I. The Details of the Parable.
    A. The landowner went out early in the morning to hire laborers for the vineyard.
    B. Landowners agree to a certain wage.
        1. Later, at different hours of the day, the landowners hires more laborers.
        2. At the end of the day, the landowner pays all workers same amount.
    C. This causes the first workers hired to complain.
    1. Landowner replies that there is no cause for them to be upset.

II. Important lessons from this parable.
   A. Everyone should respond when called.
        1. Workers went to work IMMEDIATELY!
        2. There is danger in delay – 1 Cor. 6:1-2
        3. "Death Bed Repentance" something NOT to be trusted in.
    B. We are all workers.
        1. Those in the vineyard are not standing idle.
        2. Many want benefits/rewards but refuse to work for reward.
    C. We need not question the ways of God.
        1. Notice: 14b & 15.
        2. Rom. 9:20-24 – who is man to question ways of God?
    D. There need not be envy among the workers.
        1. Remember Peter’s question – Mt. 19:27
        2. Must learn to walk humbly before God – Micah 6:8; Rom. 11:8-22
        3. Lk. 17:10 – is this our attitude?
    E. We need to faithfully labor & God will do His part.
        1. 1 Pet. 4:19
        2. Should never let "each will receive same reward" as excuse for laziness.

III. Conclusion.
   A. Are you subject to the gospel call?
    B. Are you continually working for your reward?
    C. Are you living your live in continual service to God?
    D. Don’t delay...respond today!
