The Fact of Christ's Resurrection

Text: Rom. 1:1-6
Introduction
At the very core of the Christian religion is the belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead following His death on the cross. Everything hinges upon the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Why were Christians so determined to spread the gospel in spite of constant persecution? Because of their belief in Christ’s resurrection. Memorials have been placed both in the physical realm and in the spiritual realm testifying of the fact that Christ resurrected from the dead. What are they?

I. The church of Christ.
   A. Mt. 16:13-18 – Christ promised to build His church and it came into existence following His death – Acts 2:47
        1. Acts 4:11-12 – Christ the chief cornerstone of the church.
      2. Eph. 1:19-23 – Church the body of Jesus Christ.
    B. Must become a part of His church in order to be saved.

II. The New Testament.
   A. Focus of the NT lies upon the fact of His resurrection. Observe: Acts 2:29-32
        1. 1 Cor. 1:2 – Through Jesus we are sanctified.
        2. Only sanctified because of the resurrection of Christ & our obedience.
    B. 1 Cor. 15:14-20 – Paul hangs credibility of entire Bible upon resurrection.

III. The Lord’s Supper.
   A. Mt. 26:26-30 Jesus institutes Lord’s Supper with His apostles.
        1. Acts 2:42 – first century Christians observed the Lord’s Supper
        2. 1 Cor. 11:26 – Christians to proclaim His death until He returns.
    B. If Christ wasn’t resurrected, why partake of the Lord’s Supper?

IV. Baptism into Christ Jesus.
   A. Acts of baptism symbolizes what happened to Christ – Rom. 6:3-6
        1. Baptism the spiritual act which washes away sin.
        2. Notice further symbolism in Col. 2:12-13
    B. Old man dead in sin. We can be made alive through Jesus.
    C. Acts 2:41 – First century Christians responded to baptism So should we!

V. Martyrdom of Saints.
   A. Testimony both within/without Bible of persecution of first century Christians.
        1. Stephan – Acts 7:57-60; James – Acts 12:1-2
        2. Their belief strong enough to endure anything. Are we as dedicated?
    B. 1 Cor. 15:29-32 – if no resurrection, why did Paul risk his life everyday?
        1. Certainly the martyrdom of the saints proves the resurrection of Jesus!
