You Be Jesus

Introduction
We see the example of Jesus throughout the Scriptures. His life and actions are a living testimony to us on how we should live our lives. Often, though we expect others to be the perfect example of how Jesus should be, but we allow ourselves to fall short. Could it be that we want others to be like Jesus for selfish reasons?

I. You be loving & kind.
   A. Jesus was loving & kind.
        1. Jhn. 15:9; 13; Rev. 1:5; Lk. 6:35
    B. We are to be like Jesus and be loving & kind to each other.
        1. Love one another as Christ loved us – Jhn. 13:34-35; Gal. 6:2
        2. Involves being kind to one another – Rom. 12:10; Eph. 4:32
    C. Often we want others to be loving & kind but we allow ourselves to fall short.
        1. Don’t love like Jesus? 1 Jhn. 2:10-11; 1 Jhn. 3:17-18; 2 Pet. 1:7-8

II. You be merciful & forgiving.
   A. Christ was merciful & forgiving. Mt. 9:27; 15:22; 17:15; 20:30-34; Lk. 17:13
        1. Became a man to be a merciful high priest – Heb. 2:17
        2. Demonstrated forgiveness – Mt. 9:2; Lk. 7:47-48; 23:32
    B. We are to be merciful & forgiving – Eph. 4:32; Col. 3:13; Lk. 17:3-4
    C. Often we expect others to be merciful/forgiving to us, but we’re reluctant.
        1. Wrong attitude – Lk. 10:36-37

III. You be meek & humble.
   A. Christ was meek & humble. Mt. 11:28-30; 1 Cor. 10:1
    B. We are to be meek & humble – Eph. 4:1-2; Col. 3:12; Mt. 18:4
    C. But, we want others to do this, and sometimes fail to apply it to ourselves.
        1. 1 Pet. 5:5-6; Mt. 23:12

IV. You be giving & sacrificial.
   A. Jesus was giving & sacrificial.
        1. Note what He gave: Knowledge; peace; spiritual food; eternal life;
        2. See Mt. 13:11; 11:28; Jhn. 14:27; 6:27; 10:28
        3. His life – Mt. 20:28; Jhn. 10:11
    B. We are to be giving & sacrificial – Jhn. 13:34-35; Mt. 5:39-42; 19:21
    C. Often expect others to be like Jesus and go first. Mt. 25:41-46; Lk. 12:32-33

V. You be bold & rebuking.
   A. Jesus was strong, bold, correcting, & rebuking. Lk. 13:3-5; Mt. 11:20-24
    B. We must be the same, but we expect others to do so as we cower behind them.
        1. Preachers are to preach the word. 2 Tim. 4:2; 1 Tim. 5:20; Acts 8:22
        2. Sin must be rebuked!

We must learn to become as Jesus! Are you following Him?
